What I hope from this book project is that someone far away from Glens Falls, who doesn’t know David Blow from Adam, reads it and either cries or laughs or is somehow moved, and then shares that experience with others – and with me.
Writers write to share stories and try to make some impact on the lives of the readers who come across their words. Often they can convey their thoughts much better by tapping away at a keyboard or with a pen on paper than through the spoken word. And I’ve found that the best work often comes when those words pour directly from the heart to the keys.
I also hope through this effort that the Glens Falls Area Youth Center can buy new needed equipment or that it’s leaders, Matt and Bob Congdon, can take the Youth Center kids on a field trip someplace cool on my dime. I’m donating $1 for every book I sell with what I hope is an attainable goal of at least 1,000 copies.
If you’ve never seen that duo in action, you’re missing out. Despite pretty serious health hurdles over the years, they keep tending their flock of underprivileged area youth and we as a community are rewarded. They ask for no praise for their efforts and downplay their roles, but a lot of us around here know how special they are and how lucky we are that they’re here.
